Barn Safety Checklists

Most of us have basic supplies for unexpected emergencies or issues in our homes – bandages and Neosporin for minor scrapes, thermometers and medications for illnesses, etc. If you have children, you probably keep handy a list of contact information for the doctors, pharmacies, etc. When you leave a babysitter in charge, you more than likely leave a list of instructions and emergency contact information. Do you do the same for your horses? Barn Safety is something that shouldn’t be overlooked – and MD Barnmaster can help!

It may not be something you have considered before, but being prepared for an emergency, however minor, could go a long way in preventing stress for you and your horse, as well as minimizing the seriousness of the situation.

If you leave your horse in the care of others, even for short periods of time, it’s important to share information about your horse and his/her health, routine and preferences with the caretaker. This is particularly important if your horse has dietary or health considerations, or a specific exercise routine. Leaving the name and contact information for your veterinarian and ferrier will ensure that your horse will receive trusted care when you are not able to be there.

The health of your horses is important to us, and so is your barn safety. All of our barns are built with the health and safety of your horses in mind. Every MDBarnmaster building has a zero fire spread rating, and surfaces are smooth, so they don’t harbor bacteria and are easy to clean and disinfect. We also want to provide you with handy resources that will make leaving your horse in the care of others less stressful. We invite you to download these, fill them out, share them with anyone who cares for your horse, and leave them in an open, easily visible location.

Medical Care Information Card contains unique information about your horse, necessary contact information for you and trusted professionals. In addition, there is a convenient log to keep track of any care your horse receives.

Horse Care Information Card is an easy to use record of your horses feeding schedule so you can rest assured that your horse is maintaining his or her strict dietary schedule. You may also include instructions for any special care or exercise considerations your horse needs.

Every barn should have basic supplies that will ensure the safety of your horse, should an emergency or situations occur. The Barn Medicine Cabinet Checklist includes everything from a thermometer and rubbing alcohol, to vet wraps, prescription medications and electrolytes. This handy list will ensure that your horse will be protected in the event of an injury or emergency.

It is necessary at times to leave your horse in the care of others, and we have made it easier for you to find peace of mind that extra safeguards are in place when your horse is in the care of another.
